I thought this song by Aeon Corvidae coming out of Earwig Studios had such a lethargic storm brewing through it. It made me think of something flowing over a huge expanse of time. The song had a certain starkness and space within it the way the bass bends along its groove while the drums slowly swing. A melancholy piano part tinkles along with cool lightning and thunder guitar fills. The Aeon singing nice and easy on the top sort of surfing the sound and crescendoing and crashing along with it. Swells and climbs.
I was visualizing something that felt simple and not distracting in order to keep the feel and the vibe of this slow burner going. One color and juxtapose it against black to capture that darkness that is in the songs vibe. I thought slow motion might be a cool approach and keep the visuals interesting enough without having to be too busy. Aeon wound up doing all this fantastic movement underneath the fabric and we lit things to have a sort of mysteriousness with the layers. Sometimes you see her and other times you don’t out of the billowing fabric. Trying to make that sync with the ebbs and flows of the music.
The slow motion wound up really matching the spookiness and was fun to use that as a sort of exaggeration on the timing and flow of the energy of the song. The billowing fabric slowed down pulls you in by the gradual nature and the sonics of all the nice fuzzy guitar distortions and backing vocal cushions and Aeon soaring on top with that emotion of hope and promise. Keeping Aeon under the fabric the whole time also kind of lent to a little bit of a struggle which the song had a hint of redemption and overcoming obstacles. Cool tunes and cool folks make it easy. Thanks Aeon and Eric.
